Abstract<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The introduction of the Central Provident Fund Lifelong Income for the Elderly (CPF LIFE) plan by the Singapore government in 2013 provides a unique setting for studying household saving decisions’ different motives. The study contributes to the economics literature and provides useful information for policy-maker to further refine existing policies to ensure the elderly population of the future can enjoy the later stages of their lives. This project aims to address three broadly defined issues:<\/p>\n

(1) the existence of and reasons behind bequest motives and the determinants of bequest;<\/p>\n

(2) the availability of annuities on people\u2019s saving decisions;<\/p>\n

(3) the availability of annuities on the labor force participation rate of the elderly.<\/p>\n
