{"id":12364,"date":"2026-02-04T09:23:06","date_gmt":"2026-02-04T01:23:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fass.nus.edu.sg\/cls\/?page_id=12364"},"modified":"2026-03-05T17:04:18","modified_gmt":"2026-03-05T09:04:18","slug":"minor-in-language-studies","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/fass.nus.edu.sg\/cls\/minor-in-language-studies\/","title":{"rendered":"Minor in Language Studies"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<h2>Minor in Language Studies<\/h2>\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"courses\" src=\"https:\/\/fass.nus.edu.sg\/cls\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/32\/2020\/01\/courses.jpg\" alt=\"courses\" width=\"928\" height=\"136\" \/><\/p>\r\n<p>The Minor in Language Studies is an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nus.edu.sg\/registrar\/academic-information-policies\/undergraduate-students\/special-programmes\/minor-programmes\">Open Minor<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n<p><strong><u>How to declare<\/u><\/strong>:<br \/>Students must declare to the Home Faculty\/School no later than the end of the fifth semester of study.<\/p>\r\n<table>\r\n<thead>\r\n<tr>\r\n<td width=\"230\">\u00a0<\/td>\r\n<td width=\"230\">2017 and 2018 Cohorts (Pre-CHS)<\/td>\r\n<td width=\"230\">2019 and 2020 Cohorts (Pre-CHS)<\/td>\r\n<td width=\"230\">2021 Cohort and onwards (CHS)<\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n<\/thead>\r\n<tbody>\r\n<tr>\r\n<td width=\"230\">Overview Requirements<\/td>\r\n<td width=\"230\">To earn a Minor in Language Studies, students must accumulate 24 units, made up of\r\n<p>\u00b7 either\u00a016 units* (i.e., at least 4 courses) from courses of the same language\u00a0plus\u00a08 units from recognised courses from that language track, or<\/p>\r\n<p>\u00b7 20 units* from the same language plus 4 units from a recognised course, or<\/p>\r\n<p>\u00b7 24 units*\u00a0from the same language.<\/p>\r\n<p>*The language courses must be either, (i) read from NUS or (ii) successfully mapped courses from exchange programmes (up to 8 units only) with course codes that are identical to CLS courses.<\/p>\r\nTo ensure that students who graduate with a Minor in Language Studies attain an advanced level of competency in the language, students must ensure a 6<sup>th<\/sup> or higher-level language course must be included. The offer of a 6<sup>th<\/sup> or higher-level language course is subject to the discretion of CLS.<\/td>\r\n<td colspan=\"2\" width=\"460\">To earn a Minor in Language Studies, students must accumulate 20 units, made up of,\r\n<p>\u00b7 either\u00a016 units* (i.e., at least 4 courses) from courses of the same language\u00a0plus\u00a04 units from recognised courses from that language instead.<\/p>\r\n<p>Continuing Professional Education (CPE) initiative<\/p>\r\n<p>Under the CPE initiative, graduating students who have completed ONLY some of the course requirements before graduation, may return to read the sixth and higher-level courses.\u00a0<\/p>\r\nThe course could be stacked to the courses that were completed in undergraduate programme requirements to obtain a
