Budding young researcher in the field of AI: Dr Kokil Jaidka
5 February 2021
Assistant Professor Dr Kokil Jaidka was invited as one of only eighteen speakers for the New Faculty Highlights programme at the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence Conference 2021.
This speakers' programme is targetted at new faculty or researchers with notable impact on the Artificial Intelligence community. Dr Jaidka is one of only a handful of academics selected from outside North America.
At this conference, Dr Jaidka offered a brief overview of the Social Media, Online behavior, and Language (SMOL) project, which uses computational linguistic approaches to understand online human behavior. Dr Jaidka contends that AI-powered decisions are going to continue to be at the forefront of our online and social media experiences, but a causal research design is necessary to audit their efficacy and deal with the subsequent problems that emerge. She discussed how she plans to experiment with social media platform features to deal with conversation health, polarization, and subjective well-being.
