Internship Reviews
Every year, nearly two hundred CNM students go out to complete their internships at companies such as NBC Universal, Mediacorp, Weber Shandwick and various others. Our students have done very well and here are some of the testimonials that we have received from the employers, as well as experiences shared by our internship students!
AstraZeneca Singapore Pte Ltd, 2020
Communications Intern: Nicholas Tang
"Nicholas is a hidden gem. I have encouraged him to be open about his objective setting in the beginning, and he supported and played team in all aspects of internal and external communications. I am truly satisfied with his performance and would definitely be open to provide him with more opportunities to learn other aspects of communications if his internship had been longer.”
Health Promotion Board, 2020
Marketing Preventive Health Intern: Gavin Chew
"I appreciate the fact that Gavin was contributing continuously during the Circuit Breaker, and diligently put in extra hours to complete tasks given. Even though he had no prior expertise in editing videos, he took on the task with enthusiasm by researching on how to deliver the work needed impressively.”
Marina Bay Sands Pte Ltd, 2020
Mall Marketing Intern: Cassandra Lim
"Cassandra exhibits a positive can-do attitude that endear her to her peers and co-workers. She has a real passion for the work she is entrusted with and demonstrates a keen interest to continually reinvent and build on our existing social media templates. Her improved templates received compliments and appreciation from our B2B clients!”
Tan Jia Jia Amelia
Corporate Communications Intern at Youth Infinity, AMKFSC Community Services, 2020
“At Youth Infinity, I had the opportunity to collaborate with various stakeholders e.g. NCSS to promote youth mental health. I also interacted with beneficiaries and learned about their stories during volunteering events. This allowed me to gain empathy insight by putting myself in the shoes of the less advantaged. My internship was an exciting one as I was finally able to apply the skills taught in NUS to promote social causes which I am passionate for."
Michael Andrico Suhartono Saini
Communications Intern at Arts House Limited and Creative Producer & Marketing Intern at BodyTree Group, 2020
“In AHL, I felt accomplished convincing the head of departments of my own personal recommendations for multiple project changes and several new initiatives. Additionally, despite little experience in video-making, I successfully directed and produced an impressionable video ad for BTG.”
Anne Huang
HR and Campus Intern at NBC Universal, 2020
“This internship has allowed me to clearly see my strengths and weaknesses and has given me the opportunity to work on them. I feel I have effectively built up my skills of critical thinking, problem-solving, applying theories to real-life scenarios, resilience, and adaptability. My managers and co-workers have taught me much about workplace culture and how to take care of myself in the corporate world. I am grateful for this opportunity to work hard, for new insight gained, and to challenge myself.”
Every semester, CIP students provide feedback on their internships and organizations. These are some advice that ex-CIP students have left for their juniors:
Always be curious and don't be afraid to ask questions.
Have a goal that you want to achieve from the internship (like something to put in your portfolio) and work for that goal. Never compromise on that goal. Unless you plan on transitioning to a long term position, working in a short stint is not about how much you can give to the company but about how much you can get from it, because that is all that you will get from it.
I would recommend that they take some time to figure out what they're interested in and google companies in that field. It's good to also look up company reviews on Glassdoor to have an idea of company culture so you know what you're getting yourself into.
To think carefully about what they want out of their internship experience and apply wisely.
Just give it a go and try something you never thought you would try. It's only a 5 month internship anyways, and you'll get a better idea of what suits you personally better.
To keep an open mind when embarking on your internship journey, not to be afraid to make mistakes or to clarify problems that you have with your supervisors, ask for help from your colleagues when in doubt and communicate well with your colleagues! Also, don't be too discouraged if you feel like this role is not something you want to do in the future - semester internships are a really great way to decide which industries you would want to / not want to venture into after graduation
To go in ready to learn, to do what you can but not take it too hard upon yourself when you struggle and remember to ask questions when necessary
