CNM Usability Lab

Usability Lab

The CNM Usability Lab provides a dedicated space where faculty and students can conduct usability testing and playtesting without being disturbed. The lab consists of two rooms separated by a one-way mirror, two Windows PCs, and cabling to enable one PC to mirror the screen of the second PC. Typical use of the room involves a test participant and a facilitator working in one room, and observers monitoring from the second room. The lab also contains a number of game consoles and peripherals for use for playtesting.

The lab is currently used for teaching for interactive media design and game design courses, and for graduate student and faculty research projects. Students in courses that involve usability testing and playtesting are able to book the space through their course coordinator. Courses that have used this space include NM2213 Introduction to User Experience Design, NM3216 Game Design, NM3221 Mobile Interaction Design, NM3222 Interactive Storytelling, NM4210 Advanced User Experience Design, NM4227 Game Studies, and NM5219 Critical Design.
