Abstract
"Content moderation — or how digital platforms define and control what is objectionable and desirable — is a pervasive and highly controversial new way of governing human expression. In this session, João C. Magalhães invites students to problematize some of the cliches used to explain this practice. In so doing, the talk addresses three fundamental questions: Is moderation censorship? Does moderation regard content, only? And is moderation at scale even possible?"
