\n\t\tPhD – Communications and New Media\n\t<\/h2>\n\t

The department offers a PhD programme in Communications and New Media, on a full-time and part-time basis. International students on a student’s pass can pursue their studies on a full-time basis only. The maximum period of candidature for both full-time and part-time candidates in the PhD programme is 60 months.<\/p>\nAll graduate students are required to take the following research courses:
\nNM6101 – Advanced Theories in Communications and New Media
\nNM6103 – Quantitative Research Methods in Communications and New Media
\nNM6104 – Qualitative Research Methods in Communications and New Media
\nNM6770 – Graduate Research Seminar\n

In addition, students will need to read four elective courses (if enrolled from Aug 2019), or five elective courses (if enrolled before Aug 2019).<\/p>\n

\n\t\tApplication Information\n\t<\/h3>\n\t

Application is open from 16 May to 1 November every year. There is only one intake per academic year, which commences in August.<\/p>\n

Applicants should submit their application on the NUS Graduate Admission System (GDA3)<\/a> (click here for the system user guide<\/a>) with the following documents:<\/p>\n

  1. A completed graduate application form<\/li>\n
  2. Your undergraduate and graduate scrolls and transcripts<\/li>\n
  3. TOEFL or IELTS reports (excluding native English speakers, and those whose undergraduate education was conducted in English)

    TOEFL Internet-based Test (iBT)<\/td>\nMinimum score of 85
    \nwith 22 for the writing section<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    TOEFL ITP Plus for China<\/td>\nMinimum score of 590
    \nwith 60 for the writing section<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    TOEFL Computer-based Test (CBT)<\/td>\nMinimum score of 237<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    IELTS<\/td>\nMinimum score of 6.0<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/li>\n
  4. Two recommendation letters<\/li>\n
  5. A well-written research proposal of approximately 1000 words. It should indicate the proposed area and topic of research, indicating knowledge of work done in that field, intended methodology, and a brief bibliography.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
