This Alumni Publication Fund has been established to provide meaningful support for their endeavors, enabling them to publish innovative and impactful creative works. It aims to support projects with proven literary value that may encounter challenges in securing funding from state agencies or other sources for various reasons, including but not limited to, the exploration of complex or unconventional topics. The publication fund seeks to nurture and champion the creative potential of our alumni, empowering them to make significant contributions to the literary landscape.<\/p>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"#\" id=\"fl-accordion--label-0\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-controls=\"fl-accordion--panel-0\">DESCRIPTION<\/a>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"#\" id=\"fl-accordion--icon-0\" tabindex=\"-1\"><i title=\"Expand\">Expand<\/i><\/a>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>The Department of Chinese Studies has established the &#8220;NUS Chinese Studies Alumni Publication Fund for Creative Works&#8221; (hereafter &#8220;Fund&#8221;).<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>The term &#8220;creative works&#8221; denotes non-academic book projects, including fiction and non-fiction.<\/li>\r\n<li>The Fund aims to mainly support literary writings in Chinese and translations of literary works into Chinese.<\/li>\r\n<li>The applicants must be authors or translators who have graduated from our BA, MA and\/or PhD programmes.<\/li>\r\n<li>A department-convened committee will award the funding on a competitive basis. It will also decide if the full sum is to be awarded. The Fund may not be awarded every year if applications do not exhibit the desired quality.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"#\" id=\"fl-accordion--label-1\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-controls=\"fl-accordion--panel-1\">TERMS OF THE FUND<\/a>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"#\" id=\"fl-accordion--icon-1\" tabindex=\"-1\"><i title=\"Expand\">Expand<\/i><\/a>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t<ul>\r\n<li>Every year, $10,000 will be awarded to 1 recipient or distributed among 2 recipient(s) whose project(s) has\/have landed a local publisher that can ensure the published work(s) benefit(s) the local writing scene. The Fund need not be the sole source of funding for the project. Applicants are strongly encouraged to apply to other funding schemes as well.<\/li>\r\n<li>Priority will be given to pre-publication cost (design, translation, layout, editing) and\/or publication-cum-production costs (printing, shipping, digital conversion).<\/li>\r\n<li>Applicants must demonstrate that alternative sources of funding have been explored without positive results or full support. At the stage <em>prior to applying to this fund<\/em>, self-funding will not be considered as an &#8220;alternative source of funding.&#8221;<\/li>\r\n<li>The published work must acknowledge the sponsorship of NUS Department of Chinese Studies<\/li>\r\n<li>The published work must also clearly state that NUS Chinese Studies as funding body will not be held responsible for the content (i.e. including ideas and messages presented through text or images) should any litigious controversies arise.<\/li>\r\n<li>The fund will be disbursed to the collaborating publisher(s) of the successful recipient(s). If the collaboration is dissolved between the publisher(s) and the recipient(s) during the production stage prior to publication, the publisher(s) must return the fund to NUS Chinese Studies.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"#\" id=\"fl-accordion--label-2\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-controls=\"fl-accordion--panel-2\">APPLICATION CYCLE (ANNUAL)<\/a>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"#\" id=\"fl-accordion--icon-2\" tabindex=\"-1\"><i title=\"Expand\">Expand<\/i><\/a>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t<ul>\r\n<li>15 March &#8211; 15 May: Submission of application materials (see section below)<\/li>\r\n<li>15 Nov: Notification of outcome(s)<\/li>\r\n<li>30 Nov: Acceptance deadline for successful applicant(s) and partnering publisher(s). Acceptance indicates the commitment that the project will be published by the end of next calendar year even if Fund covers only part of the expenses.<\/li>\r\n<li>By December of year of award: Disbursement of Fund to partnering publisher(s) of recipient(s)<\/li>\r\n<li>By December of subsequent year: Work by recipient(s) must be published; also, partnering publisher(s) must submit expense report(s).<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p>NB: only successful applicants will be informed.<\/p>\r\n\t<h4><strong>Application Materials<\/strong><\/h4>\r\n<ol>\r\n<li>Application Form (download <a href=\"https:\/\/fass.nus.edu.sg\/cs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/01\/02a_Application-Form_NUS-CS-Alumni-Publication-Fund-for-Creative-Works.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>here<\/u><\/a>)<\/li>\r\n<li>Manuscript (PDF).
