The minors are open to all NUS undergraduate students and can be completed by fulfilling the requirements on this page.<\/p>\n<p>Students can find out about the Asian Studies minor <a href=\"https:\/\/fass.nus.edu.sg\/chs\/asian-studies-minor\/\">here<\/a>, and the China Studies minor <a href=\"https:\/\/fass.nus.edu.sg\/oop\/mdm\/china-studies\/\">here<\/a>. Both are not directly administered by the department.<\/p>\nMinors in Chinese Studies and Chinese Language* can only be declared by students from Cohort 2025 or earlier.<br \/>\n*This minor is not the Minor in Chinese Language Studies (Both minors are separate). A minimum of 8 units of CL courses at level-3000 or higher*\n<p>*Students are allowed to read level-4000 courses subject to departmental approval.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\tMinor in Chinese Translation (TRA)\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The Department of Chinese Studies introduced the Minor in Chinese Translation Programme to train students for the demands of translation in AY2014-15. The foundation training will provide students with the required theory and practice, and introduce them to the discipline, should they wish to continue their studies in translation at M.A. or Ph.D. level in future.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note (Only applicable to Cohort 2020 and before):<\/strong> Students who are majoring in Chinese Language (including second majors) cannot take Chinese Translation as a minor.<\/p>\n<h4>Minor in Chinese Translation (TRA) (Cohort 2026 Onwards)<\/h4>\n<p>Pass at least 20 units (5 courses) of TRA or TRA-recognised courses, which include the following:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>TRA2111<\/li>\n<li>A minimum of 8 units of TRA courses at level-3000<\/li>\n<li>A maximum of 4 units of TRA-recognised courses<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Minor in Chinese Translation (TRA) (Cohort 2021 to 2025)<br \/>\n<\/h4>\n<p>Pass at least 20 units (5 courses) of TRA or TRA-recognised courses, which include the following:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>At least one course from the following (see note 1):<br \/>\na) CL1101E<br \/>\nb) HSA1000<br \/>\nc) GESS1003<br \/>\nd) GESS1027<br \/>\ne) GEX1004<\/li>\n<li>TRA2111 or TRA2101<\/li>\n<li>A minimum of 8 units of TRA courses at level-3000<\/li>\n<li>A maximum of 4 units of TRA-recognised courses (excluding CL1101E) (see note 2)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\nNote 1: Only ONE course from the list (CL1101E, HSA1000, GESS1003, GESS1027, GEX1004) can be used to fulfill the Minor requirements.<br \/>\nNote 2: Non-TRA coded Minor courses (excluding CL1101E) are considered recognised courses and will count towards the 4 units limit on TRA-recognised courses.\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Minor in Chinese Translation (Cohort 2019 to 2020)<br \/>\n<\/h4>\n<p>Pass at least 20 units of courses, which include the following list:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>CL2280 or TRA2101<\/li>\n<li>CL2281 or INT2101<\/li>\n<li>A minimum of 4 units from <a href=\"\/chs\/module-description\/#minorintranslation\" rel=\"noopener\">Translation Electives<\/a> basket<\/li>\n<li>A minimum of 4 units from <a href=\"\/chs\/module-description\/#minorintranslation\" rel=\"noopener\">Non-core (Other Electives)<\/a> basket<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Minor in Chinese Translation (Cohort 2016 to 2018)<br \/>\n<\/h4>\n<p>Pass at least 24 units of courses, which include the following list:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>CL2280 or TRA2101<\/li>\n<li>CL2281 or INT2101<\/li>\n<li>A minimum of 4 units from <a href=\"\/chs\/module-description\/#minorintranslation\" rel=\"noopener\">Translation Electives<\/a> basket<\/li>\n<li>A minimum of 4 units from <a href=\"\/chs\/module-description\/#minorintranslation\" rel=\"noopener\">Non-core (Other Electives)<\/a> basket<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\t\t\t\t\t\tMinor in Interpreting (INT)\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The Minor in Interpreting is open to all NUS students of all faculties from Cohort 2021 onwards. Together with the Minor in Translation, it will offer students the options of focusing on developing either or both their strengths in the textual and oral modes of translation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Minor in Interpreting (INT) (Cohort 2026 Onwards)<\/h4>\n<p>Pass at least 20 units of INT or INT-recognised courses, which include the following:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>TRA2111<\/li>\n<li>A minimum of 8 units of INT courses at level-3000<\/li>\n<li>A maximum of 4 units of INT-recognised course (excluding TRA2111)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Minor in Interpreting (INT) (Cohort 2021 to 2025)<\/h4>\n<p>Pass at least 20 units (5 courses) of INT or INT-recognised courses, which include the following:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>At least one course from the following (see note 1):<br \/>\na) CL1101E<br \/>\nb) HSA1000<br \/>\nc) GESS1003<br \/>\nd) GESS1027<br \/>\ne) GEX1004<\/li>\n<li>INT2101 or TRA2111<\/li>\n<li>A minimum of 8 units of INT courses at level-3000<\/li>\n<li>A maximum of 4 units of INT-recognised course (excluding CL1101E) (see note 2)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\nNote 1: Only ONE course from the list (CL1101E, HSA1000, GESS1003, GESS1027, GEX1004) can be used to fulfill the Minor requirements.<br \/>\nNote 2: Non-INT coded Minor courses (excluding CL1101E) are considered recognised courses and will count towards the 4 units limit on INT-recognised courses.\n\t\t\t\t\t\tMinor in Chinese Media (CM)\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The Minor in Chinese Media, newly introduced by the Department of Chinese Studies in collaboration with fellow FASS departments, aims to train students with an interest in the Chinese media industry and equip them with relevant skills and knowledge through a curriculum crafted from a multi-disciplinary perspective.
