{"id":880,"date":"2020-08-21T07:01:11","date_gmt":"2020-08-21T07:01:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fass.nus.edu.sg\/chs\/?page_id=880"},"modified":"2026-01-21T12:06:53","modified_gmt":"2026-01-21T04:06:53","slug":"wu-teh-yao-lecture","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/fass.nus.edu.sg\/cs\/wu-teh-yao-lecture\/","title":{"rendered":"Wu Teh Yao Memorial Lectures"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2>\n\t\tWu Teh Yao Memorial Lectures\n\t<\/h2>\n\tThe Wu Teh Yao Memorial Lectures, funded by the Wu Teh Yao Memorial Fund that was established by\u00a0his family, friends and well-wishers,\u00a0serve to commemorate Professor Wu Teh Yao (1917-1994), an educator, political scientist, specialist in Confucianism and original drafter of the United Nation&#8217;s Universal Declaration of Human Rights. He held various academic positions, such as President of Tunghai University in Taiwan and\u00a0Director of the Institute of East Asian Philosophies at the National University of Singapore (NUS), which later became the former Institute of East Asian Political Economy and is now known as the East Asian Institute.\n<p>Now held biannually, it has offered many distinguished Sinologists the opportunity to deliver public lectures in Singapore, thereby promoting Chinese culture as Professor Wu once did. Since the very first lecture in 1995 by Professor Tu Wei-ming of Harvard University, a total of 23 outstanding scholars have delivered lectures as part of this lecture series.
