{"id":11315,"date":"2022-02-23T13:10:56","date_gmt":"2022-02-23T05:10:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fass.nus.edu.sg\/ecs\/?page_id=11315"},"modified":"2022-02-25T13:20:06","modified_gmt":"2022-02-25T05:20:06","slug":"new-faculty-appointments","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/fass.nus.edu.sg\/ecs\/new-faculty-appointments\/","title":{"rendered":"New Faculty Appointments"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>\n\t\tNew Faculty Appointments \n\t<\/h2>\n\t<h3><strong>A big welcome to Siddharth George and Sorawoot (Tang) Srisuma who have recently joined the Department<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3>\u00a0 <\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/fass.nus.edu.sg\/ecs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2022\/02\/Trim-SId-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"375\" height=\"281\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/fass.nus.edu.sg\/ecs\/people\/siddharth-george\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Siddharth George<\/a> is joining the Department as an assistant professor. \u00a0He has also won a Presidential Young Professor Award; these awards are open to junior faculty at NUS and, among other perks, provide additional and highly flexible funding for research.\u00a0 Besides Dr George, three other junior faculty members in the Department -\u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/fass.nus.edu.sg\/ecs\/people\/gregory-cox\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gregory Cox<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/fass.nus.edu.sg\/ecs\/people\/yogita-shamdasani\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Yogita Shamdasani<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/fass.nus.edu.sg\/ecs\/people\/hui-ren-tan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tan Hui Ren<\/a>\u00a0&#8212; are also holders of these awards.<\/p>\n<p>Dr George works on development economics, political economy, and labour economics.\u00a0 One of his recent projects investigates how being admitted to college via affirmative action affects a student&#8217;s perception of their own ability, their academic performance, and their career aspirations.<\/p>\n<p>Dr George obtained his PhD in 2019 from Harvard University and his bachelor&#8217;s degree from the London School of Economics. \u00a0 He joins us from Boston University where he was an assistant professor.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/fass.nus.edu.sg\/ecs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2022\/02\/Picture1-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"375\" height=\"281\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We also welcome <a href=\"https:\/\/fass.nus.edu.sg\/ecs\/people\/sorawoot-srisuma\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tang Srisuma<\/a> who joins the Department as an associate professor. Professor Srisuma\u2019s research areas are theoretical and applied econometrics and empirical industrial organisation.\u00a0 He has written several papers on how to model and estimate dynamic games. Dynamic games are models where players in the game (such as firms) interact over time.\u00a0 \u00a0A recent project uses such a model to investigate the impact of promotional fees that manufacturers pay to supermarkets in the UK on, among other things, consumer welfare and brand loyalty.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Srisuma obtained his PhD from the London School of Economics, where he also earned his master&#8217;s and bachelor&#8217;s degrees.
