{"id":14871,"date":"2022-11-09T11:40:39","date_gmt":"2022-11-09T03:40:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fass.nus.edu.sg\/ecs\/?page_id=14871"},"modified":"2026-04-06T08:10:43","modified_gmt":"2026-04-06T00:10:43","slug":"master-of-economics","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/fass.nus.edu.sg\/ecs\/master-of-economics\/","title":{"rendered":"Master of Economics"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2>\n\t\t\tMaster of Economics\t<\/h2>\n\t<p>The Department of Economics offers a Master of Economics coursework programme with two tracks, the <strong>Applied Economics<\/strong> track and the <strong>Quantitative Economics<\/strong> track.<\/p>\n<p>All applicants with a good Honours degree (second class and above) or equivalent in Economics or a related field (e.g., finance, accounting, mathematics, statistics, physics, engineering,\u00a0operations research, political science) are welcome to apply.<\/p>\n\t<p><strong>Applied Economics track.\u00a0 <\/strong>The career-oriented Applied Economics track is for individuals who wish to become professional economists or economic consultants in business, non-profit, or government organizations. Students who successfully complete this course will be able to apply their economic expertise to a wide range of challenging situations facing firms, policymakers, and other stakeholders. Click <a href=\"https:\/\/fass.nus.edu.sg\/ecs\/master-of-applied-economics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>here<\/strong><\/a> for curriculum information.<\/p>\n\t<p><strong>Quantitative Economics track.\u00a0 <\/strong>The academic-focused Quantitative Economics track is for students who wish to acquire a deeper knowledge of advanced economic theory and analytical and quantitative methods. It prepares students for doctoral studies in economics and careers that require more rigorous training in advanced economic theory and quantitative skills. Click <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/fass.nus.edu.sg\/ecs\/master-of-quantitative-economics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a><\/strong> for curriculum information.<\/p>\n\t<p>Applicants should declare their preferred track at the time of application and indicate whether they are willing to be considered for the other track.<\/p>\n<p>Students on the <strong>Quantitative Economics track <\/strong>may apply to transfer to the <strong>Applied Economics track<\/strong>\u00a0by the end of the first semester through submitting a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/fass.nus.edu.sg\/ecs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2025\/09\/Application-for-Transfer-of-Track_11-Sept-2025.docx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\">request form<\/a> <\/strong>via email\u00a0to the Department.\u00a0Such transfers are subject to the Department&#8217;s approval, and no reversion of tracks will be permitted.<\/p>\n<p>Students on the <strong>Applied Economics track<\/strong>\u00a0will not be permitted to transfer to the <strong>Quantitative Economics track<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\t<h3><strong>Financial Support<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Fee Rebates.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Applicants in the following categories who are accepted to the ME programme (for the 2026 intake) will automatically receive a fee rebate: (a) citizens and permanent residents of Singapore (50% rebate); (b) international NUS alumni (at least 20% rebate); (c) citizens of ASEAN countries (rebate at appropriate levels).<\/p>\n<p>Merit-based fee rebates will also be awarded to selected applicants. Please click <a href=\"https:\/\/fass.nus.edu.sg\/ecs\/fee-rebates-recipients\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>here<\/strong> <\/a>for the Fee Rebates recipients.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ME Scholarships.\u00a0 <\/strong>There are nine merit-based ME scholarships open to successful applicants who demonstrate academic excellence and strong leadership potential. The scholarships will be awarded as follows: three to Singapore citizens or permanent residents, three to applicants from ASEAN countries (excluding Singapore) and three to other applicants. Each scholarship includes a full tuition fee waiver and a stipend of $12,000 per semester for two semesters. <strong>No separate scholarship application is required.\u00a0 <\/strong>Applicants accepted to the programme who are interested in the scholarship may be asked to provide additional information. Where appropriate, partial scholarships will be awarded. Please click<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/fass.nus.edu.sg\/ecs\/me-scholarship-recipients\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a><\/strong> for the ME scholarship recipients.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The ADB-Japan Scholarship Program.\u00a0 <\/strong>The Asian Development Bank (ADB) &#8211; Japan Scholarship Program was established in April 1988 with financing from the Government of Japan. It aims to provide an opportunity for well-qualified citizens of ADB&#8217;s developing member countries to undertake graduate studies in various subjects, including economics. The scholarship covers full tuition fees and some expenses.
