\n\t\tAlberto Salvo receives Sustainability Award\n\t<\/h2>\n\t

Alberto Salvo<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0has received the 2019 Sustainability Award from the Brazilian branch of the Society of Automotive Engineers. The award recognizes his research on the environmental and health impacts of Brazil\u2019s use of ground transportation fuels. Professor Salvo’s research found that consumers’ choice of ethanol over gasoline at the pump has led to higher ozone levels in ambient air while reducing ultrafine particle concentrations in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Other research exploited the reduced cargo truck traffic in inner-city Sao Paulo (after the inauguration of a beltway) to examine the impact on traffic, air quality, and public health.<\/p>\n

Professor Salvo joined the Economics Department in 2013. His recent work focuses on Asia\u2019s under-studied, but globally critical, environment and society.<\/p>\n
