Single Major [B.Soc.Sci. (Hons.)]<\/strong><\/h3>\n

EC Major students are required to pass at least 60MCs of EC-coded or EC-recognised modules which include the following.<\/p>\n(1)\u00a0\u00a0EC1101E Introduction to Economic Analysis
\n(2)\u00a0 EC2101 Microeconomic Analysis I
\n(3)\u00a0\u00a0EC2102 Macroeconomic Analysis I
\n(4)\u00a0\u00a0EC2104 Quantitative Methods for Economic Analysis\u00a0(see\u00a0<\/em>Note <\/em>1<\/em><\/a>)<\/em>
\n(5)\u00a0\u00a0EC2303 Foundations for Econometrics\u00a0(see<\/em>\u00a0Note 2<\/em><\/a>)<\/em>
\n(6)\u00a0\u00a0EC3101 Microeconomic Analysis II
\n(7)\u00a0\u00a0EC3102 Macroeconomic Analysis II
\n(8)\u00a0\u00a0EC3303 Econometrics I\u00a0(see\u00a0<\/em>Note 3<\/em><\/a>)<\/em>
\n(9)\u00a0 A minimum of 16MCs of EC modules at Level-3000 (including EC3101, EC3102, and EC3303)
\n(10)A minimum of 20 MCs of EC modules at level-4000 or higher
\n(11)A maximum of 8 MCs of EC-recognised modules for Major programme\n

Important Notes:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/a>Note 1: Students who have passed any MA module that is not MA1301 or MA1311 or MA1312 or MA1421 or any 2 MCs MA modules are allowed to read any level-2000 or level-3000 EC elective or EC-recognized\u00a0module in lieu of EC2104. Likewise, not more than one level-1000 MA module can be used together with EC2104 for fulfilling major requirements.<\/em><\/p>\n

<\/a>Note 2: Students who have passed any ST module or MA2216 or DSC1007 or DSC1007X are allowed to read any level-2000 or level-3000 EC elective or EC-recognised module in lieu of EC2303. Please note that ST1131 is a preclusion to EC2303. Therefore, ST1131 and EC2303 cannot be counted as two 4-MC modules for the fulfilment of the Economics major requirements.<\/em><\/p>\n

<\/a>Note 3:\u00a0ST3131 is a preclusion to EC3303. Students who have passed ST3131 need not read EC3303. ST3131 is an EC-recognised module that can be counted towards the requirements for the Economics major requirements.<\/em><\/p>\n

Note 4: In order to obtain Honours (Highest Distinction), students are required to achieve a CAP of 4.5 or higher\u00a0AND<\/u>\u00a0a Pass grade in the Economics Honours Thesis (EC4401). To qualify for the Economics Honours Thesis, students are required to complete 110 MCs including 40 MCs of EC major requirements with a minimum SJAP of 4.0\u00a0and<\/u>\u00a0CAP of 3.5.<\/p>\n

Note 5: Students who are not aiming to graduate with Honours (Highest Distinction) will read a minimum of 20MCs of EC modules at level-4000 or higher<\/p>\n

Note 6: Students may apply to read a level-4000 Independent Studies module (ISM) if they meet the pre-requisites of the module – Completed 100 MCs including 40 MCs of EC major requirements with a minimum CAP of 3.2. The level-4000 ISM counts towards requirement (10) above and precludes the Economics Honours Thesis (EC4401).<\/p>\n

Note 7: Students may read a maximum of 8MCs of EC5000R modules to count towards requirement (10) above.<\/p>\n

Note 8: All level-4000 modules carry a general pre-requisite of having completed 80 MCs, including 28 MCs in the Major, with a minimum CAP of 3.2\u00a0OR<\/u>\u00a0being on the Honours track (some level-4000\u00a0modules may have different pre-requisites).<\/p>\n
