EPLMF Community Projects & Partners

The Ee Peng Liang Memorial Fund (EPLMF) does more than just granting scholarships and providing financial assistance to students. The fund’s wider objectives also cover the promotion of volunteerism, social work leadership development, social service exchanges, skills in social service evaluation, and piloting of projects to improve social service delivery.

Community Care Hub

The Community Care Hub initiative is one where local residents are encouraged to work together with tertiary students, Family Service Centres (FSC) and Grassroots Organisations (GRO) to foster the social well-being of their own communities. Community Care Hubs will provide a focal point where residents come together to care and give. It also offers opportunities to co-create community self-help solutions. This concept is a structure of a voluntary community care that provides an opportunity for various stakeholders to play a more participatory role to reinforce and elevate their services and assets to promote social well-being of communities, strengthen social support and resilience in the community. The EPLMF under NUS Social Work Department, supports the design and set up of these Community Care Hubs. Tertiary education institutions like NUS will support the initiative by connecting students interested in bringing positive impact to the community with the anchor partners to drive meaningful projects.

ACES Helplife

One of the community projects that the EPLMF is supporting is the ACES Helplife (https://www.acescare.sg) project which is a new community service initiative launched in June 2022 by PM Lee. A support service hotline operated entirely by senior volunteers, seniors can call the hotline to share request assistance for meals delivery, dealing with emergencies, using Internet to access digital services, changing medical appointments or simply to share their worries & concerns. The senior volunteers are trained to use digital technology which would allow data capturing for analytical purposes. The project aims to help seniors relieve their sense of loneliness and isolation and find purpose in aging. The EPLMF is involved with ACES Helplife by offering both professional and administrative support for which it is in line with the objectives of the Fund.
