Studying at the geography department has been a life-changing experience for me<\/h4>\n

Studying at the geography department has been a life-changing experience for me. The PhD program comprises of 1-2 years of course training and 2-3 years of independent in-depth research on a topic. Academic training at the department involves not only routine conversations with the supervisor but also interactions with a much larger community of graduate students and faculty who study a diverse of research topics. There are seminars, workshops, conferences, and even informal lunches and dinners, organized by either the faculty or graduate students, within or beyond the campus, where you are always encouraged and welcomed to explore on your own. I remember all the enjoyable chats with friends, swimming in pools and running through the beautiful tropical landscapes while jittering around thoughts and writings.<\/p>\n– Shaoda Liu<\/strong>

My four years at NUS Geography were truly memorable and fulfilling. My PhD project focused on the movements of giant boulders on reefs and beaches, and how we can use boulders to reconstruct storm and tsunami history<\/h4>\n

My four years at NUS Geography were truly memorable and fulfilling. My PhD project focused on the movements of giant boulders on reefs and beaches, and how we can use boulders to reconstruct storm and tsunami history. I was very fortunate to be able to conduct my research on multiple Pacific islands. I also had the opportunities to assist in an undergraduate overseas field trip and various research projects in places like Fiji, Thailand, and the Philippines to learn a range of field techniques and to build connections. When I was not travelling, I love the company of fellow students from diverse backgrounds as I was always learning something fascinating through our conversations. These experiences shaped me into the person and geoscientist I am today, as I develop new research projects and educate the next generation using the hard and soft skills I acquired during my studies.<\/p>\n– Annie Lau<\/strong>
