We hope that you will have a fruitful year exploring deeper into the various Global Studies themes. The prospectus below is prepared to give you the necessary infrastructure to manoeuvre through this unique year.

To fulfill the Global Studies Honours requirements, students will be required to complete the Core Courses for Honours which includes: GL4101 Research in Global Issues and GL4102 Task Force. These courses are offered consecutively each academic year. Information on other Honours requirements can be found here.

We will offer GL coded 4000-level electives for our majors to read. These courses will add depth to the various themes of the major. The offering of these courses are subject to the research interests of the faculty members. Students may also choose to read 4000-level courses from other departments recognised under their theme.

The prospectus outlines procedures for applying and writing an Honours Thesis (8 Units) or a shorter project through the Independent Study Course (4 Units). We would like to emphasize that students should pay careful attention to the instructions and keep to the deadlines listed to avoid being imposed with any penalties. Students should begin planning for an Honours Thesis a full academic year prior to their graduating semester. This includes not only the topic, but finding an adviser.

**Note: Honours Thesis and Independent Study Course can only be taken in your graduating semester.

Outstanding Honours students stand to win one of the following cash prizes:

(i) Best Global Studies Honours Student, and

(ii) Best Honours Thesis or Task Force Contributor.

Download Global Studies Programme – There are methods courses from departments which you may find useful in reading to enhance your probability of securing a supervisor from the Department as well as being adequately prepared to write the thesis or ISM in that specific discipline. GL3101 is intended to deal specifically with some of the methodological approaches appropriate to the study of globalisation as presented in the core courses of the degree programme. However, depending on your interests, additional skills may be necessary for writing the HT. There is also the administrative complication that other programmes in FASS have established procedures for the HT with their own pre-requisites that we need to accommodate. You may therefore find that you may need to take more than one methods course in preparation for the GL HT.

At this point you may have to use the credits from the unrestricted electives component to read these modules.

You may want to arrange for consultation Dr Joshua Ryan Watkins – poljrw@nus.edu.sg, our Global Studies Honours Coordinator, to provide guidance on which methods course would be applicable to you and other concerns that you may have regarding writing a Thesis or Independent Study Module

We would encourage you to consider preparing for your HT as early as possible to accommodate the preparatory modules as well as the technical and research aspects of the writing.
