How do I know if my Theme and Region combination are a good fit?<\/a> <a id=\"fl-accordion--icon-0\" href=\"#\"><i>Expand<\/i><\/a><\/p>\r\n<p>Students who intend to declare Global Studies as their major after reading GL1101E, are required to submit their Theme, Region and Language choices for approval through the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/inetapps.nus.edu.sg\/fas\/glpln\/Login.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Study Plan System<\/a>(Study Plan System is only applicable to Cohort 2017 and before).<\/p>\r\n<p><a id=\"fl-accordion--label-1\" href=\"void(0);\">2. As a GL major, which faculty exposure can I fulfill GL1101E with?<\/a> <a id=\"fl-accordion--icon-1\" href=\"#\"><i>Expand<\/i><\/a><\/p>\r\n<p><b>Cohort 2016 onwards<\/b><\/p>\r\n<p>The exposure course for the major will fulfil either the Faculty Exposure requirements or Unrestricted Electives credit requirement. The credits for the major do not include the exposure course for the major. You would however, need to pass the course.<\/p>\r\n<p><a id=\"fl-accordion--label-2\" href=\"void(0);\">3. Can I take Global Studies as my second major?<\/a> <a id=\"fl-accordion--icon-2\" href=\"#\"><i>Expand<\/i><\/a><\/p>\r\n<p>Second Major in Global Studies is offered to students from Cohort 2020 onwards.<\/p>\r\n<p><a id=\"fl-accordion--label-3\" href=\"void(0);\">4. I have enrolled in the Language Preparation Programme (LPP) so that I can go for an exchange programme later on, so can you please advise which language is appropriate for the region AMERICAS?<\/a> <a id=\"fl-accordion--icon-3\" href=\"#\"><i>Expand<\/i><\/a><\/p>\r\n<p>Global Studies students are encouraged to go on exchange to develop skills in not only communication but in areas where the exchange University is able to complement the major. Having said this, we do not want students to start on a language before they have chosen their Theme or Region. To narrow down on a Theme or Region, students must have done the Global Studies exposure course: GL1101E Global Issues.<\/p>\r\n<p><a id=\"fl-accordion--label-4\" href=\"void(0);\">5. The GL major requires students to read 20 Units of CORE courses, 16 Units in a Theme, 16 Units in a Region and 16 Units in a Language. But the total credits are over and above the 60 Units (52Units for Cohort 2016 onwards) required for a Bachelor&#8217;s degree. But I am interested in reading courses outside of my Theme, how can I do this?<\/a> <a id=\"fl-accordion--icon-4\" href=\"#\"><i>Expand<\/i><\/a><\/p>\r\n<p>The courses fulfilling the CORE (GL coded), Theme and Region are computed under the major requirement. Whereas the Language is fulfilled using the Unrestricted Electives. As such students have at least 8 Units (4Units for Cohort 2016 onwards) of elective space to read outside of their chosen Theme or Region in a three-year track. Students from Cohort 2016 onwards have only one elective space within their major.<\/p>\r\n<p><b>Please be reminded that students should not read more than 50% of electives from a single discipline towards the GL major.<\/b><\/p>\r\n<p><a id=\"fl-accordion--label-5\" href=\"void(0);\">6. Is there a possibility that the Global Studies Programme will close if there are insufficient number of student registrations?<\/a> <a id=\"fl-accordion--icon-5\" href=\"#\"><i>Expand<\/i><\/a><\/p>\r\n<p>No, there will be no such issue with Global Studies Programme or the majors offered by the Faculty of Arts &amp; Social Sciences.<\/p>\r\n<p><a id=\"fl-accordion--label-6\" href=\"void(0);\">7. For the Theme and Region I have chosen, Korean language fits in perfectly and since I have prior knowledge in the language, I get to read LAK3203. And because of this I only have two more courses to go making me short of 2Units. Can I be granted a waiver for the 2 Units and read a non-language Course in its place?<\/a> <a id=\"fl-accordion--icon-6\" href=\"#\"><i>Expand<\/i><\/a><\/p>\r\n<p>Students who with prior knowledge in a language and place in high will be allowed to read to the highest level in that language and split their language credits between two languages to fulfil the major requirements. I am interested in majoring in Global Studies, how can I apply for it?<\/a> <a id=\"fl-accordion--icon-7\" href=\"#\"><i>Expand<\/i><\/a><\/p>\r\n<p>Global Studies is an open major in which students admitted to the Faculty of Arts &amp; Social Sciences can declare after they have read the exposure course GL1101E.<\/p>\r\n<p><a id=\"fl-accordion--label-8\" href=\"void(0);\">9. I am keen to minor in Global Studies, may I know what are the requirements?<\/a> <a id=\"fl-accordion--icon-8\" href=\"#\"><i>Expand<\/i><\/a><\/p>\r\n<p>To minor in Global Studies, students must read the following: GL1101E, GL2101, GL2102, and GL2103 and one course from any of the Themes.<\/p>\r\n<p><a id=\"fl-accordion--label-9\" href=\"void(0);\">10. What degree would I graduate with when I complete the GL major? Will the Theme or Region I have done be reflected somewhere?<\/a> <a id=\"fl-accordion--icon-9\" href=\"#\"><i>Expand<\/i><\/a><\/p>\r\n<p>Global Studies Majors will graduate with a B.A. (Global Studies) Degree. The Theme and Region components will not be reflected on their transcript. However, the programme provides a certificate for its graduates which reflects their theme, region and language combination, if they request for it.<\/p>\r\n<p><a id=\"fl-accordion--label-10\" href=\"void(0);\">11. I was admitted into NUS via the Mother Tongue Bonus Point Scheme (MTBPS). Is it possible that those MT-related modules I am going to take can fulfil both the MAJOR and MTBPS requirements?<\/a> <a id=\"fl-accordion--icon-10\" href=\"#\"><i>Expand<\/i><\/a><\/p>\r\n<p>Yes, the MT-related courses can concurrently fulfil your MTBP and your GL major requirements as long as they are (1) part of the GL recognised list of courses, and (2) relevant to your approved theme\/region or you may exercise your elective component within your major for this purpose.<\/p>\r\n<p><b>Please be reminded that students should not read more than 50% from a single discipline towards the GL major.<\/b><\/p>\r\n<p>Do take note that you may have to overload your unrestricted electives nonetheless to fulfil pre-requisites required by higher level modules which are not recognised under the GL curriculum, if necessary.<\/p>\r\n<p><a id=\"fl-accordion--label-11\" href=\"void(0);\">12.
