FACULTY POSITION IN CULTURAL STUDIES, DEPARTMENT OF JAPANESE STUDIES, NUS
The Department of Japanese Studies at the National University of Singapore invites applications for the post of Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) in the area of cultural studies to start in July 2025 or earlier.
Applicants for this position should have a PhD in a discipline focusing on Japan with a broadly defined cultural studies or interdisciplinary approach. Areas of specialization can be, but not limited to, manga and anime, games, music and any other forms of popular culture. Scholars who engage with computational tools in research and teaching are particularly encouraged to apply.
Applicants must demonstrate strong academic, teaching and administrative ability, and a willingness to promote a collaborative departmental culture. Duties will include teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels, including the MA in Japanese Visual Cultures. Candidates should also be willing to contribute to the Department's team-taught, interdisciplinary courses. They should possess native-speaking, or near native-speaking, competence in English and Japanese.
The Department of Japanese Studies is a multidisciplinary department with colleagues specializing in a variety of fields including international relations, anthropology, history, popular culture, literature, performance and geography. The department is supported by a comprehensive Japanese language program in the university’s Centre for Language Studies. The Department belongs to the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) that combines disciplinary departments with area studies departments in Asian Studies.

FACULTY POSITION IN MEDIA AND FILM STUDIES, DEPARTMENT OF JAPANESE STUDIES AND DEPARTMENT OF CHINESE STUDIES, NUS
The Department of Japanese Studies and the Department of Chinese Studies at the National University of Singapore jointly invite applications for the post of Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) in East Asian Media and Film Studies. Two positions are available for this appointment. The successful candidates will be jointly appointed in both departments, with a higher weightage in the department their research focuses more on.
Applicants for this position should have a PhD in East Asian Studies, Film Studies, Media Studies, Comparative Literature, or any other relevant discipline. Successful applicants should be able to conduct research and teaching on China (including the Chinese diaspora) and Japan. Their research must cover either the modern or contemporary periods (from 1900s onwards). Scholars who can contribute to further interdisciplinarity in research or teaching are particularly encouraged to apply.
The successful applicant will be expected to have a strong commitment to a) teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels; b) providing supervision to undergraduate and graduate students and c) undertaking research in East Asian Media and Film Studies and other related fields; as well as d) playing an active role in both Departments’ curriculum and development. They should possess native-speaking, or near native-speaking, competence in English, Mandarin and Japanese.

Lecturer (Asian Studies)
The National University of Singapore (NUS) launched the College of Humanities and Sciences (CHS) in August 2021, an enhanced undergraduate experience for students of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) and the Faculty of Science (FoS). CHS includes a Common Curriculum of 13 courses that provide foundational skills in literacy, numeracy and critical thinking, as well as broad exposure to Humanities, Social Sciences and Asian Studies.
The successful candidate will be part of the teaching team offering the CHS Integrated Asian Studies course and will be appointed on the Educator Track. The appointment is for a period of two or three years with the possibility of extension.
The position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found.
