Louise is a Ph.D. Candidate in Japanese Studies, specializing in Feminist Cultural Studies. A Filipino scholar, she received her M.A. in Japanese Studies (History) from the Ateneo de Manila University, where she analyzed Japanese women’s media representation under the Allied Occupation Period and worked as a Lecturer. She was also a Guest Scholar at Meiji University and a Research Fellow of the Japan Foundation. She has published in journals such as Comparative Sociology (2019), Asian Studies: Journal of Critical Perspectives on Asia (2022), and Silva Iaponicarum (2022).
Her research focuses on how Japan, through femtech like period-tracking apps, mediates menstrual experiences and cultural norms in contemporary Japan. Beyond femtech, she also looks at the portrayal of menstruation in Japanese popular culture, particularly in film and manga.
In her spare time, she enjoys playing board games, watching anime, drinking matcha latte, and taking long walks.
