Kexuan Li is a PhD student in the Department of Japanese Studies at NUS. Her research examines comparative sociology between China and Japan, with a particular focus on the “social clock” and how societal institutions, digital media, education systems, and economic transformations influence the life choices of young people in both countries. Her broader academic interests include comparative sociology, cultural studies, identity politics, gender and family, and international relations. Before joining NUS, she completed a Master’s degree in the ITASIA program at the University of Tokyo, where she developed interdisciplinary approaches to Asian societies and cultures. She also holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Politics from China. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, writing novels, cooking, and watching movies.
