Religion and literature in the Tokugawa Period

Malavika is an MA student, who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from India and a Master’s degree in Marketing from the U.K. She has been a student of the Japanese language and Japanese culture for nearly a decade. Prior to joining the research-based Master’s program at NUS she worked as a writer, editor and Japanese-English translator. Her area of interest is literature in the Edo period and her research will focus on the discussion of Ueda Akinari’s Ugetsu Monogatari within the religious and socio-political framework established by the Tokugawa Shogunate.

Malavika has a passion for cultural history and was an active Japanese Docent at the National Museum of Singapore and the Asian Civilizations Museum from October 2018 till October 2021.
