Nur Amirah graduated from Nanyang Technological University with a Bachelor of Arts in History (Hons) (Distinction) in 2022, with her Final Year Paper (FYP) centring on the literary aesthetics of the Taketori Monogatari. Her FYP was featured in the School of Humanities’ History Journal to showcase the graduating batch’s best works.
During her undergraduate studies, she has written a paper on power objects, ritual-making and the state. As a continuation, her Master’s Thesis will further investigate rituals and their performative role in contemporary Japanese society, with a focus on the Touken Ranbu franchise. She will embark on a historical and anthropological study on the role of ritual-making in instilling ethos through the lens of an Oshikatsu fan.
In her free time, Amirah enjoys travelling and interacting with the locals. She has visited temples, churches, and synagogues among others with the purpose of learning and understanding other cultures and religions.
