Ryan is an MA student in the Department of Japanese Studies, having graduated with a bachelor’s degree in linguistics from Nanyang Technological University. He is interested in recent Japanese cultural production amidst its ambivalent identity, evolving forms and fractured patterns of distribution and consumption. By considering theories of media, genre and/or affect along with their development in non-Anglophone contexts, his research work looks at Japanese artistic production from the 1970s as it relates to multiple political logics. Ryan is also a film writer who has produced works for various publications and organisations.
