{"id":135,"date":"2020-08-11T08:36:50","date_gmt":"2020-08-11T08:36:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fass.nus.edu.sg\/jps\/?page_id=135"},"modified":"2023-03-08T09:41:07","modified_gmt":"2023-03-08T09:41:07","slug":"honours-programme","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/fass.nus.edu.sg\/jps\/honours-programme\/","title":{"rendered":"Honours Programme"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>\n\t\tHonours Programme\n\t<\/h2>\n\t<p>Check the graduation requirements for your cohort:<\/p>\n<h2>\n\t\tCohort 2021 Onwards\n\t<\/h2>\n\t<h3>Single Major [B.A. (Hons.)]<\/h3>\n<p>To major in Japanese Studies, students need to:<\/p>\n<p>Pass at least 60 units of JS courses or <a href=\"https:\/\/fass.nus.edu.sg\/jps\/recognised-modules\/\">JS-recognised courses<\/a> or LAJ courses which include the following:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>JS1101E<\/li>\n<li>JS2101<\/li>\n<li>JS3101<\/li>\n<li>LAJ1201 (Note 1)<\/li>\n<li>LAJ2201 (Note 1)<\/li>\n<li>LAJ2202 (Note 1)<\/li>\n<li>LAJ2203 (Note 1)<\/li>\n<li>LAJ3201 or LAJ3203 or LAJ3202 or LAJ3204 or LAJ3205 (Note 1)<\/li>\n<li>a minimum of 36 units at level-3000 (including JS3101 and LAJ3201 or LAJ3203 or LAJ3202 or LAJ3204 or LAJ3205) or higher, with:<br \/>\ni. a minimum of 20 units at level-4000 or higher<br \/>\nii. a maximum of 1 level-5000 JS course (subject to department&#8217;s approval)<\/li>\n<li>maximum of 8 units of JS-recognised courses<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<strong>Note 1: <\/strong>Students who have been given a waiver from LAJ course(s) should read JS course(s) to make up the minimum units required.<br \/>\n<strong>Note 2: <\/strong>LAJ4203 and LAJ4205 cannot be counted towards JS major requirements.\n<h2>\n\t\tCohort 2016 to 2020\n\t<\/h2>\n\t<h3>Single Major [B.A. (Hons.)]<\/h3>\n<p>To major in Japanese Studies, students need to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pass JS1101E. This will be counted towards the Faculty Core or UE requirements.<\/li>\n<li>Pass at least 84 units of JS courses or<a href=\"\/jps\/recognised-modules\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> JS-recognised courses<\/a> or LAJ courses which include the following:\n<ol>\n<li>JS2101<\/li>\n<li>JS3101<\/li>\n<li>LAJ1201 *<\/li>\n<li>LAJ2201 *<\/li>\n<li>LAJ2202 *<\/li>\n<li>LAJ2203 *<\/li>\n<li>LAJ3201 or LAJ3203 *<\/li>\n<li>LAJ3202 or LAJ3204 or LAJ3205 *<\/li>\n<li>a minimum of 60 units at level-3000 (including JS3101 and LAJ level-3000) or higher, with:\n<ol>\n<li>a minimum of 40 units at level-4000 or higher<\/li>\n<li>a maximum of 2 level-5000 JS courses (subject to department&#8217;s approval)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Notes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To declare an Honours track, students must have completed 110 units, including 44 units in the Major, with a GPA of 3.2 and above.<\/li>\n<li>The Honours Thesis (15 units) is optional. To qualify for the Honours Thesis, students must complete 110 units including 44 units of JS major requirements with a minimum GPA of 3.5.<\/li>\n<li>Students who do not attempt the Honours Thesis will read level-4000 courses to fulfil the Honours Requirements.<\/li>\n<li>Students who may also read a level-4000 Independent Studies Course (5 units). The level-4000 Independent Studies Course carries a pre-requisite of 100 units completed, including 44 units in the Major, with a minimum GPA of 3.2.
