The\u00a0National University of Singapore<\/a>‘s\u00a0Department of Political Science<\/a>\u00a0is proud to announce the\u00a014th<\/sup>\u00a0Annual IPSA-NUS Summer School for Social Science Research Methods<\/em>, 30 June to 11 July 2025. The Methods School is organized in cooperation with the International Political Science Association<\/a>. IPSA’s mission is to promote empirical research in political science and related disciplines around the world, and the IPSA-NUS Methods School forms the Asian-Pacific hub in a global network of methods programs, with other summer schools hosted at\u00a0Flacso M\u00e9xico<\/a>, the\u00a0University of S\u00e3o Paulo<\/a>, the\u00a0Antalya Bilim University<\/a>, and the\u00a0National Research University Higher School of Economics<\/a>\u00a0in St. Petersburg.<\/p>\n

The IPSA-NUS Methods School offers rigorous training with outstanding and highly experienced, award-winning international faculty<\/a>\u00a0in a wide range of social science research methods. Students, post-doctoral fellows, junior faculty, civil servants, professionals, and everyone with an interest in research methods can choose from a wide variety of quantitative, qualitative, and formal methods\u00a0courses<\/a>\u00a0and benefit from intensive, hands-on coursework over a two-week period.<\/p>\n

Course fees<\/a>\u00a0have been priced accordingly and represent excellent value when\u00a0compared\u00a0to similar events in the U.S. and Europe (compare!<\/a>) while offering the same quality of instruction.<\/p>\n

History<\/h2>\n\t\t\t\t\t10th IPSA-NUS Methods School (2021)<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tCollapse<\/i><\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t

The 10th<\/sup> anniversary edition of the IPSA-NUS Summer School for Social Science Research Methods<\/em> took place in July 2021 (pictures<\/a>). Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and to allow international participants to attend, it was held online for the second year in a row. Having successfully adjusted to the ‘new’ online environment, the Methods School was able to offer 18 basic to advanced, quantitative and qualitative research methods courses<\/a>, including a brand new course on Computational Models of Social Behavior<\/a>. The courses were attended by more than 160 participants<\/a> from Singapore and all around the globe — from as close as Malaysia, the Philippines, and Vietnam to as far as Australia, Canada, China, Iraq, Korea, Norway, Pakistan, the United Kingdom, the United States, and many other countries.<\/p>\n

The 9th<\/sup> Annual IPSA-NUS Summer School for Social Science Research Methods<\/em> in July 2020 (pictures<\/a>) was held online as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. In spite of this drastic change and the challenges of accommodating participants and instructors from a wide variety of countries and time zones, the Methods School was able to go ahead with 17 courses<\/a>, which were attended by participants<\/a> from all over the Asia-Pacific, North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.<\/p>\n

Having established itself as a permanent, first-tier fixture on the international methods training calendar in previous years, the\u00a08th<\/sup>\u00a0Annual IPSA-NUS Summer School for Social Science Research Methods<\/em>\u00a0in July 2019 (pictures<\/a>) further grew the Methods School’s international alumni network<\/a> to now over 1,000 scholars and professionals. Bringing together\u00a0participants<\/a> from all over the Asia-Pacific, Africa, the Americas, and Europe, the Methods School continued to provide excellent opportunities for social and intellectual exchange that go well beyond two weeks of intensive methods training.<\/p>\n

The\u00a07th<\/sup>\u00a0Annual IPSA-NUS Summer School for Social Science Research Methods<\/em>\u00a0took place in June and July 2018 (pictures<\/a>). In addition to offering the traditional morning courses<\/a>, the Methods School also introduced a number of new afternoon courses that made it possible for\u00a0participants<\/a>\u00a0to take up to four courses over a two-week period.<\/p>\n

The\u00a06th<\/sup>\u00a0Annual IPSA-NUS Summer School for Social Science Research Methods<\/em>\u00a0in June 2017 (pictures<\/a>) was the largest Methods School to date. More than 200\u00a0participants<\/a>\u00a0from all corners of the globe traveled to Singapore to attend one or more of 19 quantitative, qualitative, mixed, and formal methods\u00a0courses<\/a>. This record attendance further strengthened the Methods School’s extensive international\u00a0alumni network<\/a>, and it laid the foundation for its continuing successful in the following years.<\/p>\n

The\u00a05th<\/sup>\u00a0Annual IPSA-NUS Summer School for Social Science Research Methods<\/em>\u00a0took place in July 2016 (pictures<\/a>). In its fifth year, the Methods School further grew in terms of number of participants<\/a>, courses, and instructors as 200 graduate students, post-doctoral researchers, and faculty members from all of the social sciences and several adjacent disciplines as well as civil servants, and professionals from NGOs and such industries as consulting, education, health care, and transportation attended 14 one- and two week\u00a0courses<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The\u00a04th<\/sup>\u00a0Annual IPSA-NUS Summer School for Social Science Research Methods<\/em>\u00a0in June 2015 (pictures<\/a>) was attended by 150\u00a0participants<\/a>. After only four years, the Methods School had arguably emerged as the leading regional methods program in the Asia-Pacific.<\/p>\n

The\u00a03rd<\/sup>\u00a0Annual IPSA-NUS Summer School for Social Science Research Methods<\/em>\u00a0was held in June and July 2014 (pictures<\/a>). Its nine\u00a0courses<\/a>\u00a0in quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods attracted more than 100\u00a0participants<\/a>\u00a0from over 30 different countries. The Methods School took a decisive step towards establishing itself as the leading training program for social science research methods in the Asia-Pacific.<\/p>\n

The success of the first Methods School laid the foundation for the\u00a02nd<\/sup>\u00a0Annual IPSA-NUS Summer School for Social Science Research Methods<\/em>\u00a0in July and August 2013 (pictures<\/a>). With nine courses<\/a>\u00a0and 100\u00a0participants<\/a> from all continents, the second Methods School more than doubled the number of courses and participants from the previous year.<\/p>\n

The\u00a01st<\/sup>\u00a0Annual IPSA-NUS Summer School for Social Science Research Methods<\/em> took place in Singapore in June and July 2012 (pictures<\/a>). The first program of its kind in Asia, the IPSA-NUS Methods School offered participants<\/a>\u00a0with a wide variety of backgrounds and from all over the Asia-Pacific, Europe, the U.S., and the Middle East the choice between four courses<\/a>:\u00a0Case Study Analysis,\u00a0Experimental Methods,\u00a0Mixed Methods, and\u00a0Regression Analysis<\/a>.<\/p>\n
