Dalam tahun 2002, Gijs Koster dan Roger Tol telah melakukan transliterasi dan menemukan syair ini sebagai satu satira politik yang menggetarkan, iaitu cerminan kepada krisis politik Johor Riau di awal abad ke 18 ketika pemerintahan Sultan Sulaiman. Malahan terdapat isyarat, bahawa syair ini merupakan satu counter narrative terhadap gerakan politik Bugis di alam Melayu yang disamakan dengan ular tedung, manakala ia juga berupakan kritikan terhadap Raja Ali Haji yang menulis Tuhfat al Nafis kerana menjajakan agama dan memesongkan sejarah untuk agenda ketuanan Bugis.<\/div>\n<div class=\"o9v6fnle cxmmr5t8 oygrvhab hcukyx3x c1et5uql\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"o9v6fnle cxmmr5t8 oygrvhab hcukyx3x c1et5uql\">Tentang Faisal Tehrani<\/div>\n<div class=\"o9v6fnle cxmmr5t8 oygrvhab hcukyx3x c1et5uql\">Mohd Faizal Musa atau lebih dikenali sebagai Faisal Tehrani adalah Felo Penyelidik di Institut Alam dan Tamadun Melayu, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia dan Felo Bersekutu Weatherhead Centre for International Affairs, Universiti Harvard Amerika Syarikat. Beliau kini adalah Felo Pelawat di ISEAS-Yusof Ishak, Singapura. Kajian beliau menganjur dari Sastera Bandingan, filem, budaya, sejarah dan juga Hak Asasi Manusia dengan penekanan terhadap kumpulan minority agama.<\/div>\n<div class=\"o9v6fnle cxmmr5t8 oygrvhab hcukyx3x c1et5uql\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"o9v6fnle cxmmr5t8 oygrvhab hcukyx3x c1et5uql\">***<br \/>\nIn the mid-19th century, a manuscript entitled \u2018Syair Raja Teding dengan Raja Katak\u2019 was discovered by Klinkert, a Dutch missionary who had been taken to Leiden. In 2002, Gijs Koster and Roger Tol translated and found this poem as a political satire that shook the world, a reflection of the political crisis of Johor Riau in the early 18th century during the reign of Sultan Sulaiman. Allegedly, the poem is a counter narrative to the political movement Bugis in the Malay world which equated to cobras, while it also gives us a criticism of Raja Ali Haji who wrote \u2018Tuhfat al Nafis\u2019. He made use of religion and distorted history for the sake of the Bugis supremacy agenda.<\/div>\n<div class=\"o9v6fnle cxmmr5t8 oygrvhab hcukyx3x c1et5uql\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"o9v6fnle cxmmr5t8 oygrvhab hcukyx3x c1et5uql\">About Faisal Tehrani<\/div>\n<div class=\"o9v6fnle cxmmr5t8 oygrvhab hcukyx3x c1et5uql\">Dr. Mohd Faizal Musa (Faisal Tehrani) is Research Fellow at Institute of the Malay World and Civilization (ATMA), National University of Malaysia (UKM) and Associate Fellow at the Weatherhead Centre for International Affairs, Harvard University. He is currently a Visiting Fellow at ISEAS-Yusof Ishak, Singapore.
