(Cohort 2014 and after)<\/li>\n<li>Students are allowed to use up to 8 Units to meet the requirements for both the Minor and a Major or another Minor, at the same time; however, the Units for these courses would be counted ONCE. FASS students would still need to fulfill the Units required for the Unrestricted Electives (outside major) requirement.<\/li>\n<li>For students on overseas exchange, Unit transfer of up to 8 Units of relevant courses for the Minor may be accepted.<\/li>\n<li>Please refer to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nus.edu.sg\/registrar\/academic-information-policies\/undergraduate-students\/special-programmes\/minor-programmes\"><strong>FASS website<\/strong><\/a> for specific guidelines governing Minor Programmes offered by Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Adoption of New Academic Terminology<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The University will adopt three new academic terms on 1 August 2023:<\/p>\n(a) &#8220;Module&#8221; will be renamed &#8220;Course&#8221;.<br \/>\n(b) &#8220;Modular Credit (MC)&#8221; will be renamed &#8220;Unit&#8221;.<br \/>\n(c) &#8220;Cumulative Average Point (CAP)&#8221; will be renamed &#8220;Grade Point Average (GPA)&#8221;.<br \/>\nFor more information, please click <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nus.edu.sg\/registrar\/academic-information-policies\/undergraduate-students\/modular-system\">here<\/a> (undergraduate)\n\t<p><strong>Requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Cohort 2018 and before:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Students are required to pass at least six courses (24 Units) of Science, Technology and Society Minor courses, which includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A minimum of two essential courses (8 Units) from the following:\n<ul>\n<li>HY2251 History of Technology and Virtual Reality<\/li>\n<li>SC3211 Science, Technology and Society<\/li>\n<li>PH2223\/GEK2037 Introduction to the Philosophy of Technology<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>From the list electives, a minimum of two courses (8 Units) at level-3000.<\/li>\n<li>For Cohort 2014 and before: A maximum of two electives (8 Units) can be a &#8216;GEM&#8217; or &#8216;GEK&#8217; designation. Cross-listed electives that were not taken under the GEM\/GEK designation do not count towards this restriction.<\/li>\n<li>For Cohort 2015 to 2020: A maximum of two electives (8 Units) can be a &#8216;GEH\/GES\/GET&#8217; designation.<\/li>\n<li>Students are limited to taking up to maximum of three courses from a single department (outside the student&#8217;s major).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Cohort 2019 and after:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Students are required to pass at least five courses (20 Units) of Science, Technology and Society Minor courses, which includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A minimum of two essential courses (8 Units) from the following:\n<ul>\n<li>HY2251 History of Technology and Virtual Reality<\/li>\n<li>SC3211 Science, Technology and Society<\/li>\n<li>PH2223 Introduction to the Philosophy of Technology <strong>OR<\/strong> PH2201 Introduction to Philosophy of Science<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Students may not satisfy the Core Courses requirement by taking <strong>ONLY<\/strong> PH2223 <strong>AND<\/strong> PH2201. The student must take <strong>EITHER<\/strong> HY2251 <strong>OR<\/strong> SC3211. That is, there must be one non PH Core Course.<\/li>\n<li>From the list electives, a minimum of one course (4 Units) at level-3000<\/li>\n<li>Students are limited to taking up to maximum of three courses from a single department (outside the student&#8217;s major).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>FASS Level-4000 courses<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Starting from Semester 1, AY2023-24, there will be modifications to the course codes of Level-4000 courses offered by FASS:<\/p>\n(a) Course codes with &#8220;HM&#8221; suffixes will be offered at 5 Units; and<br \/>\n(b) Course codes without the &#8220;HM&#8221; suffixes will be offered at 4 units.\nStudents from Cohort 2020 and before &#8211; to read FASS Level-4000 courses with the &#8220;HM&#8221; suffix at 5 Units<br \/>\nStudents from Cohort 2021 onwards &#8211; to read FASS Level-4000 courses without the &#8220;HM&#8221; suffix at 4 Units\n\t<strong>ACADEMIC CONVENOR<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Assoc Prof Natalie Pang<\/strong>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Requirements MINOR IN SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY &amp; SOCIETY Courses taken on Satisfactory\/Unsatisfactory basis may be counted towards the minor requirements.
