{"id":160,"date":"2020-08-24T08:43:10","date_gmt":"2020-08-24T08:43:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fass.nus.edu.sg\/pol\/?page_id=160"},"modified":"2026-06-11T09:15:42","modified_gmt":"2026-06-11T09:15:42","slug":"internship","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/fass.nus.edu.sg\/pol\/internship\/","title":{"rendered":"Internship"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2>\n\t\t\tInternships\t<\/h2>\n<h3>\n\t\t\tPS3550 Political Science Internship\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/fass.nus.edu.sg\/pol\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2020\/08\/internship.jpg\" alt=\"internship\" height=\"599\" width=\"900\" title=\"internship\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>\n<h3>\n\t\t\tRequirements\t<\/h3>\n\t<ul>\n<li>Completed a minimum of 24 units in Political Science; and<\/li>\n<li>Declared Political Science as their Major.<\/li>\n<li>Must not have read any other XX3550 internship courses<br \/>\n(Note: Students who change major may not do a second internship in their new major)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>\n\t\t\tProcedures for Application and other Information\t<\/h3>\n\t<p><em>(Must be completed\u00a0<strong><u>before<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0start of internship)<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Students are required to look for a supervisor in the workplace (who agrees to undertake the role to coordinate with the Department&#8217;s Internship Advisor.<\/li>\n<li>Students also have to look for a supervisor from the Department who will assess and oversee their work during the internship period (just like HTs and ISMs).<\/li>\n<li>Students with the internship course are also required to submit a mid-term report (40%) and assignment (60%) for grading by the department&#8217;s supervisor.<\/li>\n<li>To get 4 units, students would need to accumulate a minimum of 120 workload hours during one period working for a single organisation.<\/li>\n<li>An internship with a minimum of 240 hours working in the organisation may earn 8 unit. Of these, 4 unit will be credited to the Major, and 4 to UE.<\/li>\n<li>Restriction on Concurrent Enrollment: 1. Students enrolled in PS3550, or in both PS3550 and IPS3550, are NOT permitted to use the same internship for any other unit-bearing internship course* in the same semester. 2. If you are currently enrolled in any other unit-bearing internship course*, you cannot use the same internship for credit towards PS3550 or the combined PS3550 &amp; IPS3550 during the same semester. *This restriction includes, but is not limited to: \u00b7 Department-administered internships (compulsory or non-compulsory) \u00b7 FASS Internship Programme (FASSIP) \u00b7 CFG2101 NUS Vacation Internship Programme \u00b7 NOC unit-bearing internships Any other unit-bearing internship courses<\/li>\n<li>Full semester tuition fees is payable for the semester in which PS3550 is added for the student.<\/li>\n<li>Internships can be in part-time or full-time mode. Students do\u00a0<u>not<\/u>\u00a0have to apply for Leave of Absence (LOA).\n<ul>\n<li>If the internship is on part-time mode, the student may choose to do some courses in NUS concurrently and make the necessary timetable arrangements with their internship workplace supervisor.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Being away on an internship (especially on full-time mode) may cause students to graduate later. Students should take note of the effects on their maximum allowable candidature period and any subsequent tuition fee increase.<\/li>\n<li>All internship applications must be submitted\u00a0<u><b>2 weeks<\/b><\/u>\u00a0prior to the start of a new semester.
