{"id":98,"date":"2020-07-29T10:54:09","date_gmt":"2020-07-29T10:54:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fass.nus.edu.sg\/sas\/?page_id=98"},"modified":"2026-03-17T05:08:36","modified_gmt":"2026-03-17T05:08:36","slug":"honours-programme","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/fass.nus.edu.sg\/sas\/honours-programme\/","title":{"rendered":"Honours Programme"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2>\n\t\t\tSingle Major\t<\/h2>\n\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/fass.nus.edu.sg\/sas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2020\/07\/undergraduate.jpg\" alt=\"undergraduate\" height=\"342\" width=\"848\" title=\"undergraduate\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>\n<h3>\n\t\t\tWhat do you need?\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"#\" id=\"fl-tabs--label-0\" data-index=\"0\" aria-controls=\"fl-tabs--panel-0\" aria-expanded=\"true\" role=\"tab\">\t\t\t\tCohort 2021 onwards\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"#\" id=\"fl-tabs--label-1\" data-index=\"1\" aria-controls=\"fl-tabs--panel-1\" aria-expanded=\"false\" role=\"tab\">\t\t\t\tCohort 2016 to 2020\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\tCohort 2021 onwards\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Single Major [B.A. (Hons)]<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Pass at least 60 Units of SN courses or SN-recognised courses (including Tamil or Hindi language courses), which include:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>SN1101E<\/li>\n<li>a minimum of 28 Units of SN courses<\/li>\n<li>a minimum of 36 Units at level-3000 or higher with\n<ol>\n<li>a minimum of 12 Units at level-4000 or higher<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>a maximum of 1 SN or SN-recognised course at level 5000 (subject to department&#8217;s approval)<\/li>\n<li>a maximum of 8 Units of Tamil or Hindi track language courses offered by CLS (See Note 1)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\nNote 1:<br \/>\nLanguage training is not a compulsory requirement for obtaining Major or 2nd Major in South Asian Studies.\n\t\t\t\t\t\tCohort 2016 to 2020\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Single Major [B.A. (Hons)]<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To graduate with Honours in South Asian Studies (SN), students need to:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Pass SN1101E Discover South Asia: People, Culture, Development (This will be counted towards the Faculty Core or UE requirements).<\/li>\n<li>Pass at least 84 Units of SN courses or SN-recognised courses (including Tamil or Hindi language courses), which include the following:\n<ol>\n<li>SN4101 or SN4101HM Approaches to the Study of South Asia<\/li>\n<li>a minimum of 44 Units of SN courses<\/li>\n<li>a maximum of ONE of the following &#8220;methods&#8221; courses (See Note 1):<br \/>\ni. GE2101<br \/>\nii. HY2241<br \/>\niii. PS3257<\/li>\n<li>a minimum of 60 Units at level 3000 or higher with<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol>\n<li>a minimum of 40 Units at level 4000 or higher, including<br \/>\na) SN4101 or SN4101HM<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<ol>\n<li>a maximum of 2 SN courses or SN-recognised courses at level 5000 (subject to department&#8217;s approval)<\/li>\n<li>a maximum of 12 Units of Tamil or Hindi track language courses (See Note 2) <strong>(optional)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\nNote 1: Students are encouraged to read ONE of the recognised &#8220;methods&#8221; courses.<br \/>\nNote 2: Language courses are optional.\n<strong><br \/>\nSingle Major (B.A.)<\/strong>\n<p>To graduate with a B.A. degree in single major in South Asian Studies, students need to:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Pass SN1101E Discover South Asia: People, Culture, Development (This will be counted towards the Faculty Core or UE requirements).<\/li>\n<li>Pass 44 Units of SN and SN-recognised courses (including Tamil or Hindi language modules) which include the following:<br \/>\n1) a minimum of 32 Units of SN courses.<br \/>\n2) a minimum of 20 Units at level 3000 or higher.<br \/>\n3) a maximum of 12 Units SN-recognised courses (including Tamil or Hindi language courses) (See Note 1)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Note 1: Language courses are optional.<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Single Major What do you need?
