Hot Profs in NUS<\/strong>, The Ridge, August 2007 Issue.<\/em><\/p>\n

Dr. Johnson’s spontaneity\u00a0and enthusiasm in\u00a0everything he does could\u00a0not have been more\u00a0evident than in how he\u00a0readily agreed to this\u00a0interview. Known for\u00a0spicing up his lectures\u00a0by performing shadow puppetry, singing and then complaining about how Singapore has no spontaneity, this man strongly believes in discovering your angin<\/em>. This interview was\u00a0conducted by email\u00a0because the Hot Professor\u00a0was running off to look at\u00a0paintings in Thailand.<\/p>\n

How do you feel about\u00a0being called a Hot\u00a0Professor?<\/strong>
\nIt’s great! Finally some\u00a0credit. Thank you\u00a0ExpressMen and GO. But\u00a0then again, it depends on\u00a0how you say it. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

What is your angin<\/em>?<\/strong>
\nAh … my passions. I\u00a0really like performing\u00a0Thai shadow puppetry\u00a0(NANG TALUNG). I don’t\u00a0know why. My dream\u00a0is to one day perform\u00a0across southern Thailand\u00a0– buy myself a pickup,\u00a0and travel from village\u00a0to village performing at\u00a0temple festivals, funerals,\u00a0etc. Can’t do without nang\u00a0talung. I think if there ever\u00a0came a day when I couldn’t\u00a0do puppetry, I’d shrivel up\u00a0into a dry mass of sadness\u00a0and depression. I also\u00a0really enjoy painting in the\u00a0classical Thai style. I’m\u00a0working on a painting right\u00a0now for a wall in my living\u00a0room. It’s been more than\u00a0a year now and it’s still far\u00a0from complete because I\u00a0only work on it in my spare\u00a0time.<\/p>\n
