Jasmon Hoh Wan Ting is a master's student at the Department of Sociology, National University of Singapore. He is currently serving as the Graduate Representative to the NUS Department of Sociology Sexual Harassment Committee.
He has previously obtained a double bachelor’s degree in Accountancy and Business (Banking and Finance) from the Nanyang Business School at Nanyang Technological University in 2019. During his time at NTU, he was also a scholar of NTU’s University Scholars Programme, which is a multi-disciplinary liberal arts programme aimed at fostering creativity, promoting analytical thinking, and building a vibrant intellectual community.
Jasmon’s interdisciplinary background has led him to develop three lines of research to date.
His first line of research, which he has pursued in his master’s thesis, looks at the interrelations between social policies and health outcomes. Using data from the China Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey (CLHLS), his master’s thesis is a longitudinal analysis of how China’s health policy reforms over the past two decades have impacted health outcomes and health inequalities among Chinese older adults. He has also worked on several other projects pertaining to environmental gerontology and their implications for health policies.
His second line of research lies at the intersection between technology and gerontology. Using a critical approach to examine the effects of emerging technology on the aging experience, he has since co-authored a study on ageism in memes which has been published in the journal New Media and Society.
His third line of research concerns the study of retirement. Specifically, he is interested in understanding the changing meanings of retirement and how it relates to productivity and leisure. He is currently involved in the Lifelong Education for Aging Productively (LEAP) project under the Centre for Family and Population Research (CFPR) at NUS.
