Research Interest: Nusantara's Plan: Infrastructure and Sustainability Transformation in Sabah

Bernard Ng Jia Han holds a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering from Nanyang Technological University and a Master’s degree in Anthropology from National Taiwan University. His research focuses on infrastructure, marginality, sustainability, ethnicity, and the evolving dynamics of Insular Southeast Asia. Combining technical and ethnographic perspectives, Bernard explores how development and diversity intersect across the region.

Beyond academia, he has professional experience in Singapore’s media industry and with NGOs, contributing to projects at the nexus of culture, communication, and social change. As a Chinese-language columnist for Malaysiakini and The News Lens (Southeast Asia edition), he writes on issues of identity, inequality, and the environment.

Bernard has published his undergraduate and postgraduate theses, as well as journal articles. He also serves as an author, editorial reviewer, and external reviewer for textbooks and teachers’ handbooks commissioned by Malaysia’s Independent Chinese Secondary School Working Committee.
