Ph.D. (Sociology)
Research Interest: Gender, Migration, Civic Participation, Qualitative Methods
I am a current Ph.D. student in Sociology at the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, National University of Singapore. Before my Ph.D. study, I obtained my bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of British Columbia and later my Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Chicago.
My research focuses on how civic participation shapes identity formation and integration among Chinese female migrants in Singapore. Through qualitative methods, I explore how volunteering and other civic activities facilitate the negotiation and transformation of migrants' identities as they navigate between their home and adopted countries. I am particularly interested in understanding how gender intersects with migration experiences in this process of identity reconstruction.
