Graduate Awards & Prizes

Donated in 1998 by the Lee Foundation, a cash prize, valued at $200, is awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $15,000. The award is governed by the following conditions: 

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, the prize is awarded to the best Master of Social Sciences student, in the Department of Sociology's research programme, with the highest GPA score, of at least 4.00. 
  2. Eligible students will be those who have completed required coursework (i.e. 4 courses) in a given year. 
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit. 
  4. If there are candidates of equal merit, the award will be equally divided between them. 
  5. Students with module exemptions will not be eligible for the prize. 
  6. The award will be made by the Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners. 
  7. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.
