Asian Anthropologies

Asian Anthopologies

As an essential field of the Department, our vibrant community of anthropologists combines in-depth ethnographic fieldwork with comparative perspectives to study religion, ritual, kinships, politics and ethnicity across Asian societies and beyond. Colleagues explore and investigate the rich diversity of social, cultural and religious life across Asia, unveiling how individuals and communities negotiate identities, power relations and shared meanings.

Our faculty members have produced significant and field-defining research in this area, with extensive publications in leading academic presses and journals. Through collegial collaboration with research clusters within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) and the Asia Research Institute (ARI), we foster inter-disciplinary dialogues that illuminate Asia’s social transformations.
