Donated in 1998 by the Lee Foundation, a cash prize, valued at $200, is awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $15,000. The award is governed by the following conditions:
- Subject to rule 3 below, the prize is awarded to the best Master of Social Sciences student, in the Department of Sociology's research programme, with the highest GPA score, of at least 4.00.
- Eligible students will be those who have completed required coursework (i.e. 4 courses) in a given year.
- No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
- If there are candidates of equal merit, the award will be equally divided between them.
- Students with module exemptions will not be eligible for the prize.
- The award will be made by the Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
- This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.
