Research Interest: Gender, Power and Social Inequalities

My name is Sabrina, and I am a Master’s student in Sociology at the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, National University of Singapore (NUS). I graduated from NUS with a Bachelor of Social Science in Sociology and a Minor in Community Development and Leadership. I have also been a full-time Teaching Assistant with the department since 2024.  

Thesis / Research topic:
My thesis will adopt an intersectional lens to explore the vulnerabilities, resistance strategies and meaning-making regarding domestic violence for women who were former residents of a crisis shelter in Singapore and returned home to their partners who caused harm. Adopting qualitative in-depth interviews and ethnographic observations of shelter discharge procedures, I aim to capture the complex interplay of roles, memories and emotions in the banal experience of leaving the shelter and returning to the power structures within and surrounding their homes.
