Education has the power to change lives; but for some students, financial hardship stands in the way of their dreams.
The FASS Class of '69 Sociology Alumni Bursary Fund was established by the Sociology Pioneer Class of 1969 to support needy students majoring in Sociology. The bursary was renamed to NUS Sociology Alumni Bursary Fund in 2016, and NUS Sociology and Anthropology Alumni Bursary in 2025. This was done in the hope of inviting the larger Sociology and Anthropology family to contribute to the fund so that it can continue to grow in order to reach out to more financially needy students. Since its inception, the fund has awarded at least two bursaries each year, ensuring that financial challenges do not hinder students from pursuing their academic and career aspirations.

Over the past decade, thanks to the generosity of our alumni and donors, the fund has provided $60,000 in support, helping students continue their education. These bursaries have made a tangible impact, allowing students to focus on their studies, pursue meaningful research, and immerse themselves in the rich learning experiences that define our department. Some have gone on to advocate for marginalized communities, contribute to policy changes, and drive social impact—all because they had the support they needed at a critical time.
Your generosity can make a difference. By donating, you’re not just providing financial aid—you’re investing in the next generation of changemakers, critical thinkers, and passionate scholars.
Join us in ensuring that financial need never stands in the way of a student’s education. Every contribution, big or small, helps sustain this legacy of support.
