The application period intake is from <strong>16 May to 1 November<\/strong> (the preceding year).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Application outcomes will be released in May <\/strong>(the following year).<\/p>\n\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/gradapp.nus.edu.sg\/portal\/app_manage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tApply Here\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t<p>Applicants must apply online. Please access the\u00a0online system\u00a0and complete the application.<\/p>\n<p>If your application is shortlisted for admission, you will be contacted by the department after the deadline and will be asked to submit your application package to them by post.<\/p>\n<p>Only shortlisted candidates will be notified for interviews via Zoom. Interviews usually take place in late November\/early December.<\/p>\n<h2>\n\t\t\tApplication Requirements\t<\/h2>\n\t<p>In general, applicants without a background in Sociology or Anthropology can be considered for admission.<\/p>\n<p>Before submitting the application, applicants may seek the consent of any faculty member to be their potential thesis advisor. However, for successful Sociology candidates, the Department reserves the right to assign a thesis advisor(s) and will make arrangements for a mentorship programme, whereby a mentor will be assigned to guide the Sociology newcomer during the first semester. Subsequently, if the partnership works out well, the mentor will become the official thesis advisor.<\/p>\n<h4>\n\t\t\tThe minimum criteria for admission to our master&#8217;s and PhD programme are as follows:\t<\/h4>\n\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"#\"  id=\"fl-accordion--label-0\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-controls=\"fl-accordion--panel-0\">First Degree<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"#\" id=\"fl-accordion--icon-0\"  tabindex=\"0\"><i title=\"Expand\">Expand<\/i><\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>A good first degree, usually the equivalent of a good NUS Honours degree i.e., Merit\/Second Class and above or equivalent (e.g., a four-year Bachelor&#8217;s degree with at least an average grade in a relevant discipline).<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"#\"  id=\"fl-accordion--label-1\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-controls=\"fl-accordion--panel-1\">Master&#8217;s Degree (Optional)<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"#\" id=\"fl-accordion--icon-1\"  tabindex=\"0\"><i title=\"Expand\">Expand<\/i><\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>For PhD applicants, a master&#8217;s degree from a relevant discipline would be an added bonus, but those without such qualifications will not necessarily be disadvantaged.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"#\"  id=\"fl-accordion--label-2\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-controls=\"fl-accordion--panel-2\">TOEFL\/IELTS Scores<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"#\" id=\"fl-accordion--icon-2\"  tabindex=\"0\"><i title=\"Expand\">Expand<\/i><\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>TOEFL\/IELTS scores where applicable.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"#\"  id=\"fl-accordion--label-3\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-controls=\"fl-accordion--panel-3\">Graduate Record Examination (GRE) Scores<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"#\" id=\"fl-accordion--icon-3\"  tabindex=\"0\"><i title=\"Expand\">Expand<\/i><\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t<strong>PhD<br \/>\n<\/strong>The GRE is optional. However, do note that evidence of strong quantitative, verbal, and analytical skills through GRE scores, as well as indicators of research skills and experience will significantly strengthen your application.\n\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"#\"  id=\"fl-accordion--label-4\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-controls=\"fl-accordion--panel-4\">Relevant Proof of Adequate Training and\/or Ability<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"#\" id=\"fl-accordion--icon-4\"  tabindex=\"0\"><i title=\"Expand\">Expand<\/i><\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>A deep interest in the discipline. Applicants are to submit relevant official documentation proving that they have adequate training and\/or ability to undertake the proposed course.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"#\"  id=\"fl-accordion--label-5\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-controls=\"fl-accordion--panel-5\">Original Research Thesis Proposal<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"#\" id=\"fl-accordion--icon-5\"  tabindex=\"0\"><i title=\"Expand\">Expand<\/i><\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>An original research thesis proposal: Up to 2,000 words for master&#8217;s research proposal (approximately 5 pages) and up to 4,000 words for PhD research proposal (approximately 10 pages).<\/p>\n<p>Research proposal must be of your own design and concept. The primary purpose of submitting a research proposal is for us to have a better idea of your potential to succeed in our research programmes.
