Thesis \/ Research Topic: <\/em>Lived Experiences of Transnational Commuting: Malaysian Cross-Border Workers and the Co-Production of Urbanism in Johor Bahru and Singapore<\/p>\r\n

I am a Ph.D. candidate in Sociology at the National University of Singapore (NUS). My research investigates cross-border labour, social dynamics, and urbanism within the Malaysia-Singapore borderland, with a focus on the lived experiences and urban-social impacts of cross-border workers in the region.<\/p>\r\n

I hold an M.Sc. in Sociology from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and a B.A. in Sociology from National Taiwan University. My prior research was supported by the 2021\/22 LSE Southeast Asia Centre Dissertation Fieldwork Grant. I have presented related findings at the 2024 NUS and Tsinghua University Sociology Workshop, with a paper titled “Bridging the Causeways: How Online Communities Mitigate Commuting Pressures and Connect Malaysians in Singapore.”<\/p>\r\n

Coming from a mixed-nationality family, I am also interested in cultural capital accumulation, parenting styles, and the shaping of children’s identities and future outlooks.<\/p>\r\n
