She holds a BA in linguistics and education from Shanghai International Studies University and an MA in Anthropology from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. During undergraduate years, she was funded by China Scholarship Council to study in the United States for a year. Before pursuing research, she worked as a journalist at a television station and later as a marketing director in the field of international education.
