In New Textbook, the Story of Singapore Begins 500 Years Earlier

Recently, Singapore has rewritten the history taught in secondary textbooks to expand the story of the island state’s birth, mainly because A/P John Miksic from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the National University of Singapore provided detailed archaeological evidence of the settlement’s early importance and prosperity. For instance, his team found that “among 30,000 artifacts from the 14th century were Chinese coins and pottery, Indian glass bangles, and gold jewelry”.
