FASS Professor Chua Beng Huat questions concern over media regulations and cautions issues such as religion at SIIA event

In a 24 September Straits Times article featuring FASS Sociology Professor Chua Beng Huat, an SIIA event on media freedom and out-of-bound markers was reported. Addressing the question of what sort of society Singapore could become, the dialogue, organized by the SIIA (Singapore Institute of International Affairs) discussed issues ranging from mainstream media to religion. Panelists included Prof Chua Beng Huat and Ms Braema Mathi, president of human rights group Maruah. Prof Chua questioned whether media regulations remain a concern especially in the Internet age, while cautioning against certain issues like religion, which need to be kept in check.
