Many nations face the challenge of promoting social inclusion and economic opportunity. Patterns of housing development impact the distribution of life changes and prospects for greater social equity.

Co-organized by the Brookings Institution, Washington University in St. Louis, Duke University and the National University of Singapore, The Symposium on Housing, Inclusion and Social Equity: A Global Perspective, which took place on 30th November in Washington D.C, aimed to better understand international policies and practices of housing inclusion by bringing together political leaders, scholars and others with important perspectives to offer.

Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam was the featured keynote speaker, sharing insights on how Singapore uses housing policy and urban planning as levers for stability and social inclusion.
