This seminar to be held is to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Singapore’s independence from Britain and its merger with the Federation of Malaya, North Borneo, and Sarawak to form Malaysia. Thum Ping Tjin (“PJ”) is a Research Fellow at the Asia Research Institute, National University of Singapore, and Coordinator of Project Southeast Asia at the University of Oxford. His work focuses on decolonisation in Southeast Asia, and its continuing impact on Southeast Asian governance, politics, and international relations.
