GE2020: Fair or Foul

GE2020: Fair or Foul

November 18, 2020

Associate Professor Bertha Henson’s (NUS Department of Communications and New Media) new book GE2020: Fair or Foul? (Epigram, 2020) discusses the various factors contributing to the outcome of the 2020 General Elections (GE2020) in Singapore. Formerly a journalist for Singapore Press Holdings, A/P Henson gives a first-hand account of the People’s Action Party’s past challenges and how they have established the political scene in Singapore over the years.

Written with the help of a team of NUS undergraduates, A/P Henson’s book covers the processes that took place during the GE this year. Rather than merely giving a historic account of Singapore’s politics, the book provides an engaging narrative of the dramatic and comedic moments that occurred surrounding the 2020 GE. As the results of the GE polls were rather unexpected this year, A/P Henson unveils the shortcomings of an electoral system that has yet to evolve with its times.

As A/P Henson exposes some of the hidden realities of the political landscape in Singapore, readers are given a play-by-play of the 2020 GE campaign through the comprehensive and riveting chapters in this book.

On 21 November 2020 at 10am, A/P Henson will discuss her book in a webinar organised by the NUS Department of Communications and New Media. The webinar, “‘GE2020: Fair or Foul?’ and the role of journalism education in successful societies”, will feature seven speakers with journalism expertise. Registration for the is free and there are limited seats available.
