In light of Singapore’s prolonged dry spell in early 2014, a team from the FASS Geography Department have identified the development of groundwater and the reduction in evaporative losses in open water bodies as two internal avenues to address our vulnerability to water stress. In their article, “Increasing Singapore’s resilience to drought”, the team also calls for boosting the efficiency of our Four National Tap System— one of the world’s most remarkable water resource strategies— and the need for Singapore to foster cooperation with neighbouring countries in reducing uncontrolled burning in their jurisdictions.

The team of FASS Geography professors include Associate Professor Alan D.
