Grief runs through the work of health and social care. The death of a service user we have journeyed with, the many non-death losses our service users carry, such as the loss of health, relationships, roles, and hopes for the future, and even the departure or death of a colleague can all affect us deeply. Yet grief in professional practice is often left unspoken and unexamined.<\/p>\n

Join us for a keynote presentation by Associate Professor Wallace Chan<\/strong>, with responses from senior local practitioners who will bring their frontline experience and perspectives to the conversation. The seminar closes with a panel discussion, offering an opportunity for open dialogue and Q&A.<\/p>\n

This seminar is open to all in health and social care who wish to better recognise and respond to grief in all its forms, in those they serve and in themselves.<\/p>\n\t\"\"16 September 2026, Wednesday

\n\t\t\t\t\t\"Wallace\n\t<\/figure>\n\tAssociate Professor Wallace Chan<\/strong>
\nCommunities and Education,
\nNorthumbia University\n\t

Dr Wallace Chan<\/strong>\u00a0is an Associate Professor in Social Work, School of Communities and Education, University of Northumbria at Newcastle, United Kingdom, and was formerly an Associate Professor in the Department of Social Work at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. His research and teaching span death and bereavement, palliative and end-of-life care, and meaning in life. His work on self-competence in death work reflects his commitment to supporting helping professionals in coping with the emotional and existential challenges of working with death, dying, and bereavement. He is a Fellow in Thanatology with the Association for Death Education and Counseling (ADEC) and holds the Diplomate of Logotherapy from the Viktor Frankl Institute of Logotherapy. He has authored over 60 peer-reviewed publications and currently serves as Co-Editor of the Asia Pacific Journal of Social Work and Development<\/em>, alongside editorial board roles with Death Studies<\/em>\u00a0and the Journal of Loss and Trauma<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
