Wong Ee Chuen Natasha The Chinese Language curriculum consists of Chinese language and linguistics, and Chinese-English translation. Students study many topics, among which are an introduction to the Chinese language; the phonology, grammar, and lexicology of Chinese; the evolution of Chinese; Classical Chinese; the writing-system of Chinese characters; the semantics of Chinese; the rhetoric and pragmatics of Chinese language; and Chinese dialects.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t The Chinese Studies Department provides training in diverse areas of Chinese Studies and Chinese Language, with the aim of preparing students for employment in a wide range of sectors. Its curriculum grounded in both experimental applications and theoretical studies offers both breadth and depth covering fundamental knowledge of the major fields of chemistry, namely: analytical; inorganic; organic; and physical chemistry which can be applied to many scientific fields.<\/p>\n The programme offers a Second Major in Chemistry, 4 specialisations in Chemistry, and 3 Minors in Chemistry. Students will also acquire laboratory experience in chemical synthesis, spectroscopy, analytical and physical measurements to make them ready to be involved in cutting-edge research in areas like renewable energy, food sustainability, better medicines and next-generation materials, to address global challenges such as climate change, the energy crisis and diseases in future.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t Chemistry involves the study of - chemical processes, chemical compositions and chemical synthesis - to better understand the way in which materials are structured and how they react in certain situations. Having gained chemical understanding at molecular level, graduates can apply this knowledge in many ways across a wide range of careers in both scientific and non-technical domains.<\/p>\n Chemistry graduates are in demand from research and academia, to fields like sustainability, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, energy, healthcare and manufacturing, amongst others. \n<\/span><\/strong>I have always been interested in languages, and have thus always wanted to do something related to them. After all, languages shape the way we see and interpret things daily. Hence, though I was never very good in Chinese, I have always enjoyed the language itself - conversing with others in it, reading Chinese stories- there was always a certain beauty in the words.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\t\n\t\t\n\t
